Although the human genome sequence lists every single DNA base of the roughly 3 billion bases that make up a human genome, it doesn’t tell biologists much about how its function is regulated. Now, for the first time researchers at the Salk Institute have released the first detailed map of the human epigenome, the layer of genetic control beyond the regulation inherent in the sequence of the genes themselves.

Three scientists will share the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physics. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Tuesday that Charles Kao, Willard Boyle and George Smith have been awarded the most prestigious science award for their work in the field of fiber optics and digital imaging technology.

NVIDIA, the leader in GPU computing, today announced that it will work with Microsoft to promote NVIDIA Tesla graphics processing units (GPUs) for high performance parallel computing using the Windows HPC Server 2008 operating system.
