Sony on Wednesday unveiled “the world’s lightest 8-inch notebook” – the VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC. It weighs just 1.4 pounds and is roughly as thin as a cell phone. The 8″ notebook comes with a resolution of 1600 x 768 pixels and LED backlit. Featuring a convenient, one-button quick-boot option, the P offers fast access to the web, email, photos and more.

The Lifestyle PC also comes with built-in WAN 3G mobile broadband on the Verizon network, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth, a built-in MOTION EYE® webcam, four hours of battery life with the standard battery, and an eight-hour battery option. It also delivers real-time GPS functionality, including the maps, for which you don’t even need an internet connection. It also has an instant-mode option that launches directly into Sony’s Xross Media Bar™ interface, so you can rapidly boot up and access music, video, photos and the Web.

The Sony VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC is powered by an Intel® (1.33GHz) processor. It features 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 60GB HDD or up to 128GB SSD, Intel’s GMA 500 integrated graphics card, Memory Stick PRO™(Standard/Duo) media slot with MagicGate® functionality, Multi-media Card (MMC) slot and SD™ memory card slot. The world’s lightest 8-inch notebook runs on Windows Vista operating system.

The Lifestyle PC will be available in four colors – garnet red, emerald green, onyx black and crystal white. It will retail for about $899.99. This new notebook will be available for pre-orders online at www.sony.com/pr/pseries. It will also be sold at Sony Style® stores starting later this month and at other major retailers around the country beginning in February.

Pretty powerful spec for a notebook that small! Althouh I wonder how Vista would run under a 1.33 GHz computer O_o

Would love to have one though although it’s quite pricey

This would be a great laptop to use while traveling, at less than 1KG you could carry it around and not even notice it.

It’s kind of half-way between a PDA and a full size laptop, shame it isn’t a little cheaper though.
