It is reported that a group of scientists in Birmingham have artificially created a living human brain. What? A human brain? How it is possible? According to news reports, the scientists at Aston University in Birmingham have created tiny bundles of cells which act like a mini nervous system. It is hoped that the artificial human brain will help find cure for some deadly disease conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

Professor Michael Coleman is leading the research said that the artificial brain, created by reprogramming tumor cells, is capable of processing thought at basic level. Like a human brain the cells are processing, they’re connecting and they’re communicating. Regular injection of minerals and nutrients keeps them alive.

The artificial brain can be used to understand different brain functions and also how degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s develop. Once scientists know how a disease starts, finding a cure becomes a lot easier.

The project was supported and funded by the Humane Research Trust, which advocates medical research into human disease without the use use of animals or animal tissue. If successfull, this project can change the face of all present medical research techniques. Moreover there will be no more use of test animals in medical research.
