How to disable JavaScript in Firefox?

  1. Open Firefox browser.
  2. Go to Tools and select Options. Firefox Options window will appear.
  3. Go to Content section and uncheck (click on the check box) Enable JavaScript option.
  4. Press OK button in the bottom of the Options window.
  5. Restart Firefox. Enjoy browsing with JavaScript disabled.

That was easy! Now what if you need to re-enable JavaScript? Follow the steps below and turn on JavaScript (recommended) in Mozilla Firefox.

How to enable JavaScript in Firefox?

  1. Open Firefox web browser.
  2. Go to Tools in menu bar and select Options link. Now Firefox Options window will appear.
  3. In the Options windows, open the Content section and check (click on the check box) Enable JavaScript option.
  4. Press OK button and restart Firefox.

Now enjoy browsing with JavaScript enabled.

JavaScript is important for proper functioning of many websites. If you want to get most out of the Internet without missing anything, you should keep JavaScript turned on. And if you are annoyed by certain scripts or tracking codes on web pages, you can always use a Firefox add-on or a third party software to block them individually or in group.

Update 28/11/2013:

Thanks to Firefox developers, option to disable JavaScript has been removed from options. Looks like they want to play alone. But wait! There is still a way. Follow the steps below:

Steps to disable JavaScript in New versions of Firefox:

  1. Type about:config in your address bar and press enter.
  2. An warning will appear. Press I’ll be careful, I promise! button
  3. Type javascript.enabled in the search bar inside about:config.
  4. Two preferences will appear. Double click on the preference named javascript.enabled. That will change the value of the preference to false (default is true)
  5. Close and restart your browser. You’ll noticed that JavaScript is turned off or disabled.

      Sorry for not updating the content for new version of Firefox or different Operating systems. As you are not using Windows, press the Firefox button on top left and go to Preferences…

    There are no OPTIONS in the TOOLS menu!!!??? WTF (using mac OSX / firefox). Useless help.

      That is because Firefox developers are gone wild or mad. They update their user interface every month and causes troubles to other developers and general users. Now they don’t offer option to turn off Javascript.

      Just wait a few moment to see the updated version with new technique.
