Mar 10, 2009

Google has confirmed that a bug in Google Docs service may have shared some user’s private Google Documents with others. Google Docs is a web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and form application. Google Docs allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users.

Though the bug affected just about 0.05% of all documents, it was enough to cause some serious damages to businesses. That’s why Google quickly fixed the problem removing collaborators and viewers from affected documents. They also informed the affected users via email and informed them that they would need to re-share those documents.

According to Google, the problem occurred in cases where Google Docs users had chosen to collaborate on multiple documents and adjusted settings to allow access to others. The bug allowed collaborators to access documents aside from the ones intended.
